Giving this Dreamwidth cross-posting thing a try...

I worked on the felt coverings last night. These are my least favorite part of the whole project; I really want to enlist people with patient fingers and nearby laundromats to help me make later batches. (I would link to Regyt in an eyebrow-waggling, nudge-nudging fashion right about here if I knew how to make formatted user-links on DW.)

Yeah. I actually don't have much to say. My parents are in town, driving me alternately tolerably happy and BATSHIT CRAZY and leaving me with new fresh pockets of tasty, tasty Jewish guilt. I work on this project as my refuge. I have time for almost nothing else, besides squiring them around Manhattan and hacking on revisions of the lamp code. Daaah.

Oh, aiee! You don't know about Barney Greenglass the Sturgeon King? Either Amsterdam or Columbus, in the lower 80's (West Side of course) -- the best and only place to go for a proper New York Jewish appetizer. I mean, eat their lox special plate and you are good for three days' protein.

My ex and I used to go there all the time. Take the Central Park local to 81st and walk over. Trust me, it's worth it, and especially if Ella likes lox (it's really low on decor, what with the water-stained wallpaper) and the waiters are surly beyond belief. But the food is to die for.

G-ds, but I **miss** New York.

I looked it up and found Barney Greengrass. Looks like the right thing.

I'm amused that "Central Park local" seems to be synonymous with the C train. See, I'm on the East Side, so "Central Park local" is, idunno, the M86 or something. (Though I can easily get to the C from my office in Chelsea/Flatiron/mumble.)

Also, I fear you are laboring under the perception that Ella's living here too. :( I will have to snag some other cute girl to feed lox to.

Well, my apologies for an Upper-West-Side-centric worldview; I suppose it's fairly obvious I used to live in Inwood, and figured that going down to the 80s was like the Journey To The Centre Of The Earth. Sorry for the bad assumption about Ella, and I hope that it was not hurtful for me to mention her thusly.

My recommendation of BG as a date-restaurant still stands. Also highly recommended (if you like jazz, anyway) are Kavehuz, which I think is in West 26th on the north side of the street, and for Belgian take on seafood, La Petite Abeille on Hudson Street. At least once one should also try Alfredo's, which I think is on Madison, and therefore inevitably spendy.

Damn, I **still** miss my old city. :( Boston hath nowhere near the level of charms that Mannahatta has.
